Boston College Volleyball Extends Losing Streak to 6 Games

The Eagles fell to Wake Forest and Duke last week

The Boston College volleyball team continued to struggle last week, despite some strong individual performances. The Eagles dropped games to both Wake Forest and Duke by scores of 3-0, increasing their losing streak to 7 games and dropping their record to 3-11.

On Friday, BC lost to Wake Forest in straight sets. BC held Wake to close games in the first and third sets, with each ultimately ending at 25-22 in favor of the Demon Deacons. BC dropped the second set 25-17, squandering a 4-4 tie by letting Wake go on a 7-0 run. Amaka Chukwujekwu and Sophie West were the stars of the game for BC, earning 7.5 points each. Jane DeJarld also had a strong offensive game, leading the team with 13 assists.

The Eagles put up a good fight against Duke on Sunday, but again lost in straight sets. The Eagles led the game in digs and blocks, but that defense was not enough to turn things around. Duke and BC had a close, back-and-forth first set, but Duke took a 25-23 win thanks to 3 kills. Duke dominated in sets 2 and 3, winning 25-17 and 25-18 respectively. Jill Strockis led the game with 18 digs, and Amaka Chukwujekwu registered a game-high 6 blocks.

BC returns to Chestnut Hill next weekend to play Georgia Tech and Clemson at home. The Eagles will be hoping to earn their first ACC win of the year.
