The Boston College field hockey team improved to 8-4 overall and 8-0 in non-conference play with a 4-0 win over the University of New Hampshire today. The Eagles dominated the game with 9 shots on goal and 4 corners, and Sarah Dwyer made 5 saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season.
Brooke Matherson opened the scoring just 3 minutes in, tipping in a shot from Chelcie Mendonca off the first corner of the game. This would end up being the game-winning goal - Matherson’s second GWG of the season.
BC continued to put the pressure on UNH, and it paid off late in the second when Elizabeth Warner put a rebound into the net to increase BC’s lead to 2 goals. The Eagles held a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Freshman Fusine Govaert scored to give BC a 3-0 lead early in the second half, and fellow freshman Caroline McGovern scored the final goal of the game on a terrific breakaway opportunity.
This Friday, the Eagles will return to action as they hope to earn their first ACC win of the season. BC will face Louisville at home at 6 PM on the 6th.
