2017 NCAA Football Championship Game Open Thread: Go Clemson!

Tonight, we are all Tigers

Want to talk about tonight’s Alabama Crimson Tide (booooo) versus Clemson Tigers (raucous cheer!) national championship game? Look no further.

ATL Eagle put up a great post today about why we should be rooting for the Tigers tonight. The most important point he raised, really, is about just how classy and fantastic Clemson fans are.

Back when I was a student, I was fortunate enough to go to the BC vs. Clemson game that Matt Ryan won to send us to the ACC Championship Game. Having just recently gone to Maryland (whose fans are, genuinely, almost entirely classless goons, sorry, it’s true), those of us who had never made the trip to Clemson were a bit worried about what it would be like dealing with Tigers fans in one of most famous football environments in the country.

As it turned out, it was one of the best sports experiences of my life, and that’s throwing the good result aside entirely. Several other band members and I strolled through the parking lots in our BC marching band t-shirts and were welcomed into tailgates, offered food, and given an almost constant “Welcome to Clemson, hope y’all enjoy the game!” Afterward, dejected fans strolled over to the band in the crowd, congratulated us, and wished us well against Virginia Tech.

I personally love Clemson as my second team, and I would imagine almost all of you are joining me in rooting for the Tigers tonight. Let’s go, Clemson!
