Birdball Picked Picked 6th in the Atlantic Division in Preseason Poll

BC Walkoff

The Atlantic Coast Conference released today its preseason coaches’ poll, in which, the Eagles were picked to finished tied for 6th place in the Atlantic Division with rival Notre Dame. Florida State was picked as the favorite in the Atlantic Division, as was North Carolina in the Coastal. Florida State was also picked as the overall conference champion, after receiving 10 of a possible 14 first place votes.

The preseason positioning of the Eagles by the conference’s head coaches seems like somewhat of a snub. After all, the Eagles were one of ten teams from the ACC to make the NCAA postseason a year ago, and advanced to the Super Regionals for the first time in school history. While BC did lose some high-profile talent to the 2016 draft, they return the bulk of their lineup and pitching staff in 2017.

The underdog role is nothing new for Birdball, who seem to thrive in that capacity. However, all preseason predictions go out the window in less than a month when BC opens its season on February 17th, in Daytona Beach, Florida when they take on Bethune-Cookman.
