Boston College Women’s Basketball Falls Apart in Loss to Duke

On the bright side, Kelly Hughes set another BC basketball record!

For the first half of today’s BC women’s basketball game, things were surprisingly close. The Eagles were leading Duke by a score of 12-11 after the first quarter, and were down by only 1 basket at the half. Things fell apart for BC in the second half though and the Eagles ended up losing by a score of 67-44.

As usual, turnovers were a big problem for BC. They had 25 turnovers, 13 in the first half and 12 in the second. The Eagles also really struggled with shooting accuracy. BC shot only 25% from the paint and made only 21% of attempted 3-pointers. The Eagles did manage to match Duke in rebounding, picking up 38 rebounds to Duke’s 40.

Of note in today’s game was Kelly Hughes’ 301st 3-pointer. Hughes now leads all BC basketball players, male or female, in career 3-pointers. Hughes usually manages to score at least a couple 3-pointers every game, so she should build on this record by a lot before she graduates.

The Eagles return to action on Thursday, facing Wake Forest.
