Boston College Women’s Hockey Sweeps Vermont

The Eagles beat the Catamounts on Friday and Saturday

The Eagles improved their Hockey East record to 14-2-2 the weekend, defeating Vermont in an away series. The earned a 3-2 OT win on Friday and a 3-0 shutout victory on Saturday.

The Catamounts gave BC some competition on Friday night, going up 2-0 in the first half of the game. Makenna Newkirk scored BC’s first goal at 14:45 in the second, getting BC within one. As the game wound down, it looked like BC was going to lose this one, but Megan Keller scored with under a minute to go to get the Eagles into overtime. Newkirk scored her second goal of the game just 39 seconds after the start of the OT period to earn BC the come-from-behind win. The Eagles outshot the Catamounts 41-9 in the game.

Megan Keller set 2 Hockey East records in Friday’s game: conference points by a defenseman (60) and conference assists by a defenseman (49).

The Eagles had an easier time on Saturday, earning a 3-0 victory. BC scored all 3 goals of their goals in the second period. Makenna Newkirk opened the scoring at 6:22 in the second for her third goal of the series. Kali Flanagan scored a minute later to bring the score to 2-0, and Delaney Belinskas followed with a goal 3 minutes after that. Despite the uneven score, shooting was actually more even in Saturday’s game - BC led with 32 shots to UVM’s 20.

BC goalie Katie Burt earned her 81st career win on Saturday, setting a new program record. Bert also earned her 28th career in Saturday’s game.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday at 7 PM, facing Merrimack at Conte.
