Boston College Men’s Basketball: Jim Christian’s Postgame Quotables

Hear what BC’s coach had to say after the game

NCAA Basketball: Virginia at Boston College Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Wednesday evening, the Boston College Eagles fell to the Virginia Cavaliers 71-54 at Conte Forum. Jim Christian met the press after the game. Below are his comments to the press.

On the Virginia defense…

"They came out and hit us right in the mouth. We missed a lot of good shots against a good defensive team. I thought they were unbelievably good on defense and took advantage of our mistakes and did a very good job taking us out of transition. In reality we had possessions. We had shots, but when you get those chances you have to make those shots and we didn't. That just fueled their defense."

On second-half defense compared to the first…

"I thought that it was better but this is Virginia and playing good for 20 minutes isn't going to help you. I'm disappointed that wasn't how we played for 40 minutes but our team has to grow and learn that. We had some guys struggling and they just have to play out of it, but 20 minutes in this league isn't going to get it done."

On Virginia's ability to move the ball on offense…

"They play very deliberately, but they don't turn the ball over and they understand how important each pass is. That's why they are such an efficient offense. I felt that tonight we were careless with the ball and they took advantage of that. They are a very patient team on defense so when you make careless mistakes they make you pay. That was the difference in tonight's game."
