Although they were able to keep the score close for much of today’s game, BC women’s basketball ended up losing to Virginia by a score of 62-55. The Eagles were tied with Virginia going into the 4th quarter, but allowed their opponents to run away with the games.
Sloppy play continues to haunt the Eagles - in today’s match they committed 22 turnovers, allowing Virginia to score 21 points off of turnovers. BC made only 26.7% of attempted 3 pointers and shot with 46% accuracy from the paint.
BC did out-rebound Virginia, with 37 rebounds to Virginia’s 35. BC also outdid Virginia with 5 blocked shots compared to Virginia’s 3.
As usual, Mariella Fasoula led the Eagles in points and rebounds. Kelly Hughes had a rough game, making only 3 of her attempted field goals and 2 of her attempted 3 pointers. The Eagles aren’t a deep enough team to win unless both of their star players are performing well, so they’ll need Hughes and Fasoula to stay accurate.
BC returns to action on Thursday at 7 PM to face Notre Dame.
