Boston College vs. UMass Opening Line: Eagles Favored By 16.5

In what seems like a line that should probably come down over the course of the week, Boston College has opened up generally as a 16.5-point favorite over in-state foe UMass for Saturday afternoon’s game at Gillette Stadium, according to OddsShark.

The spread ranges from 16 to 17 depending on the book, setting BC as a pretty heavy favorite in a game that feels from a BC perspective like it could be hazardous, with the Eagles possibly dealing with the lingering effects of both traveling across the ocean and dealing with the devastating way they lost Saturday’s game.

That said, with the way BC’s offense moved the ball on Saturday - not quite Texas A&M but certainly competent compared to recent years - you’d suspect they should be able to put up some points against UMass, so we’ll see if this line proves to be accurate. BC’s three point loss while 3.5-point ‘dogs made them 1-0 against the spread this year.

There is no over/under posted for the game yet. As we pointed out last week, the “under” 44 for BC-GT was basically free money. We’ll see where the bookmakers set that expectation as game day approaches.
