September goes into the books as far as the 2016 college football season is concerned and from the perspective of the Book, it ended on a very high note indeed.
The Book posted one of its best weeks in recent years, going 33-18-1 for a .644 winning percentage and erased the horrid start to the season, now with its nose seven games over .500!
I thought this might be a great time to compare the College Football Playoff Committee style rankings we have been looking at so far, with a more traditional power poll that we also keep. This poll is the one we posted in the past years and is in line with what the Massey or Sagarin ratings would show you.
Not surprising, the lists are a bit different, as Massey, Sagarin and our power poll have Ohio State as #1, while in the CFP style format, Texas A&M leads the way. The Aggies have one more data point than do the Buckeyes, ranked #10 in our poll, and also now sport wins over Arkansas, UCLA and Auburn, who are currently #40, #22 and #24 respectively in the power poll. Contrast this to OSU, with wins over Bowling Green (#117), Tulsa (#70) and Oklahoma (#19) and you can see where the Aggies get their edge.
A&M's ranking of #9 in the Book's power poll, compares favorably with its Massey composite ranking of #8 and Sagarin's at #6.
To remind you once again, the CFP style poll is strictly looking at your resume: who you have beaten, who you have lost to, as opposed to the power poll, which evaluates how "good" you supposedly are.
If you are wondering where the Eagles stand, they are #90 in our CFP poll, #85 in our power poll, #79 in the Massey rankings and #79 in the Sagarin rankings. Pretty consistent.
BC gained a bit in the power poll last week, but got no value from beating Wagner in terms of the CFP style poll and won't gain much this week either with the Buffalo Bulls coming to town. The Book has the Eagles a 17 point favorite over the team which upset Army last week.
Some big games around the country this week, including one, if not the ACC game of the season, where Clemson (#11 CFP, #7 Power poll) is a 2.3 point favorite over Louisville (#6 CFP #4 Power poll)
I listed all the ACC and Top 25 game point spreads here, but I do have them all, so if you are interested in a game not listed, just let me know.
Enjoy the games and Go Eagles!
Note: the Massey composite rankings are as of Tuesday night, September 27.
