The Boston College women's soccer team defeated Cincinnati 2-0 on Friday night. The Eagles, who came into the week ranked 22nd, have yet to lose a game this season. BC has yet to take on an ACC opponent, but their out of conference play has been impressive and they should be able to hold their own in what is always a tough conference.
BC dominated the first period, holding Cincinnati to two shots. Cincinnati fought back in the second, but the Eagles still outshot them 21-10 during the game.
BC's first goal came late in the first period. Senior Hayley Dowd scored in the 43rd minute after a great set up from Lauren Berman and Jade Ruiters. Berman in particular had a great game for the Eagles, picking up assists on both goals and also registering BC's first shot of the game.
Cincinnati put the pressure on BC at the beginning of the second half, registering 4 shots in the first 3 minutes. BC narrowly escaped a goal when a Cincinnati header went off the crossbar, and again when Alexis Bryant had to make a tough save on a direct shot.
At the 58 minute mark, BC scored their second and final goal. McKenzie Meehan scored off a loose ball in front of the net for her 4th goal of the season. Lauren Berman and freshman Samantha Hiatt assisted on the goal.
This was the 3rd shutout in a row for the Eagles. Goalkeeper Alexis Bryant has saved all 7 shots on goal that she has faced in the last two games. This is the first time this season that Cincinnati has not scored a goal.
The Eagles will play their next game at noon on Sunday when they take on Pacific on Newton Campus.
