The field hockey team pulled off a big upset this afternoon, defeating #3 UNC 2-1.
The teams were fairly evenly matched throughout the game, both registering 5 shots on goal. UNC did have more attempts than BC though - 16 to BC's 10.
UNC started the scoring at 17:34, when Lauren Moyer scored on her first and only shot on goal of the game. BC came back 10 minutes later to tie the game, as freshman Brigid Wood took a shot of the rebound and scored her first collegiate goal.
Play went back and forth following the tying goal, but junior Chelcie Mendonça put BC ahead at the 55 minute mark. Mendonça's shot a loose ball after a penalty corner for her first goal of the season and the match's game winner.
BC is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in ACC play. They play again on Sunday, facing Northeastern on the road. The Eagles return home on September 23 to play ACC rival Virginia.
