The #8-ranked Boston College field hockey team started their 2016 season with a cruise to victory, topping the Quinnipiac Bobcats 2-0 on Friday afternoon in Hamden.

Emily McCoy and Brooke Matherson scored the two goals for BC, both of which came in the second half. The Eagles dominated from the get-go, outshooting QU 9-1 in the first half but failing to find the back of the net, despite earning 3 penalty corners.

The Eagles finally got their breakthrough in the 38th minute, when McCoy scored on a 2-on-1 breakaway with Brittany Sheenan. Matherson scored on a rebound in the 63rd minute to provide the final 2-0 margin.

BC now has a full week off before heading to Pennsylvania for a stiff test in the ACC/Big Ten challenge. The Eagles face Northwestern on Friday afternoon before squaring off against Maryland on the ensuing Sunday. With such tough competition around the corner, BC will be glad to be off the mark with a win.
