All this week the gentlemen at BCI will be giving their predictions for a variety of topics regarding BC football. We will put on our fortune teller hats and try to predict for you, the reader, our educated guess for MVP, breakout stars and overall record. Today, the first topic: Offensive MVP.
AJ: Patrick Towles (QB). I think this kid is going to really step up this season in a new offense. He can throw the ball, seems to have a good head on his shoulder, and working with QB guru Scot Loeffler will do wonders to fix some of the kinks. Will he be elite? I don’t think so, but he will be serviceable, and be able to make some plays, and with the defense he has around him, I think that is all BC needs this season.
Hoff: Jon Hilliman (RB). Hilliman exploded onto the scene two years ago rushing for 860 yards and 13 touchdowns as a true freshman. Hilliman fractured his left foot in the 4th game last season which knocked him out for the rest of the year. Hilliman says he is “110%” healthy for this season and I expect big things from him.
Joe: Jon Hilliman (RB): I picked Hilliman last year and he probably could have been if he didn’t get hurt. BC will certainly be hoping he can carry the load this season. Of course, like the whole team’s fortunes, Hilliman’s will rely largely on the offensive line.
Grant: Patrick Towles (QB): All anyone is looking for is ANYTHING on offense, and we’re going to get good balance out of Towles. One thing to keep in mind is that his learning curve on the playbook isn’t going to be much worse than everyone else’s with the new offensive coordinator. So I think you’re going to see the unit gel pretty early.
Towles is a talented, experienced arm with a wide-ranging skill set. He’s going to give us the type of balanced offence we haven’t seen in a while.
Arthur B: Patrick Towles (QB): I'm tempted to put Hilliman, but I think Towles could be a player that puts the offense in a better position than last year. His versatility will allow a little bit more creativity in play selection, and that could be a difference maker in tight games.
Brian F: Patrick Towles (QB): For all the reasons listed above. Even though I fully expect that BC won’t shy too far away from the run-heavy offense from seasons 1-3 under Addazio, Towles will help to provide more balance and manage the game more effectively. Plus he’ll look like the second coming of Matt Ryan after the adventure that was the 2015 Boston College football quarterback rotation. Do Harambe proud, kid.
