Boston College Holds Second Scrimmage. Begins Preparation For Georgia Tech

Boston College football held their final scrimmage of the summer this morning in Chestnut Hill. From the reports from BC, it sounds like there were a few important talking points that came out of the organized practice.

With the game in Dublin against Georgia Tech only two weeks away, Boston College head coach Steve Addazio had his team mimic the Georgia Tech triple option offense. "We've been working on that and it's been really fun.” said Addazio “The guys have really embraced it. Guys like (Tyler) Rouse, (Myles) Willis. We have starters running that offense right now so that we can mimic the speed (of Georgia Tech)."

Otherwise BC ran some situational football, which was actually highlighted by some big plays on offense and special teams. Cornerback Taj-Amir Torres took the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Sophomore running back Davon Jones broke off a 70 yard run, but was stopped at the one yard line, he later cashed it in for a touchdown. Quarterback Patrick Towles had a huge run for over 50 yard (that was blown dead), and connected with Tyler Rouse for a 20 yard touchdown reception. The other big scoring play was wide receiver Ben Glines, who ripped off an end around for pay dirt.

It wasn’t all positives though for the offense though. Patrick Towles had the opportunity to tack on two other touchdowns, but overthrew fullback Bobby Wolford and tight end Tommy Sweeney in the end zones. "I've just got to be sharper," Towles said. "There's no excuse for that. I've got to make those throws, and I will. I have no doubt that I'll make those throws. I'll just keep going to work. I'll work with Tommy (Sweeney) and Bobby on those and we'll make them when we have to."

Coach Addazio agreed: "It was not very good today, in my opinion," he said. "We had a lot of drops, though. We are in the two-week mark of camp and it was like everyone had the ankle weights on today. Everyone was tired and we didn't look crisp. "(Towles and Darius Wade) have had a great camp. They have thrown the ball really well and have done a great job. They threw some great passes today, but the consistency at the position – we have bobbled some snaps and were just doing some things today that didn't look good to me."

Great to hear that the offense is clicking, as clearly that is something BC needs to improve upon from last year. Also good news was that Addazio said that there were no major injuries in the scrimmage. Unfortunately there wasn’t much in terms of defensive players in the recap.
