Pete Frates and the Ice Bucket Challenge can now add another accomplishment to its ever-growing list.
With news rolling in about new breakthroughs in the fight against ALS and another year of challenges working its way through August, Frates’ story is set to become the topic of a new book, per an announcement on social media over the weekend.
Casey Sherman, who wrote a book about the Boston Marathon bombing entitled Boston Strong, will join with co-author Dave Wedge to pen the tale of Frates, his family, and the Ice Bucket Challenge, entitled Challenge.
“Their mission has crossed cultural, language, and religious barriers and has spread like wildfire throughout 150 countries culminating in the greatest social media campaign in history,” said Sherman in a statement posted to social media.
Frates, a former captain of the Boston College baseball team, is the current director of baseball operations, having received the appointment following his diagnosis. The Ice Bucket Challenge, which he pioneered two summers ago, raised more than $115 million for ALS research.
The book is due to be released in Fall, 2017.
