After a couple of days of speculation, Zach Sanford has officially signed with the Washington Capitals. Sanford joins Brooks Orpik and Paul Carey in the Caps system.
Sanford was set to be the only junior for the Eagles following numerous early departures - now BC with have 0 juniors on the 2016-17 squad. His loss will be felt by a young BC team - Sanford scored 39 points last season, including 13 goals. He led the Eagles in assists with 26 last season, and was third on the team in points. Sanford was also one of only 6 players to stay healthy during an injury-ridden season and he played in all 41 games.
Sanford was drafted 61st in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by Washington. He signed a 3-year entry level contract with the Caps and will likely start the season in the AHL with the Hershey Bears. Fellow BC alum Paul Carey should also start the season in Hershey - he just signed a two-way, one-year deal with Washington.
We're bummed out to lose another player, but we wish Sanford the best of luck in his pro career!
