Andie Anastos was the lone BC player drafted in today's NWHL draft. The draft consists of 20 picks, divided up into 5 rounds. Each NWHL team picks once in each round. Anastos, a forward, was Connecticut's 2nd pick, and was the third pick of the second round.
Anastos, who will be a senior at BC in the fall, played in all 41 games for the Eagles during the 2015-16 season. She scored a career high 37 points for the Eagles last season and was an important factor on both the power play and the penalty kill. Anastos has scored 14 goals in each of her 3 seasons at BC, but had a career high 23 assists as a junior. She scored 3 game winning goals last season and recorded a +/- of +50. Anastos, who was also a captain for BC as a junior, will return as a captain in the fall.
In the 2015 NWHL draft, 4 BC players were drafted. Alex Carpenter was last year's #1 pick. She was drafted by the Riveters but her rights were traded to the Boston Pride. Hayley Skarupa and Dana Trivigno were also drafted by the Riveters, but both of their rights were traded to the Connecticut Whale. Lexi Bender, the other Eagle drafted in 2015, has already signed with the Boston Pride. As evidenced by Carpenter, Skarupa, and Trivigno, being drafted by Connecticut does not mean that the team will retain Anastos' rights, but if things stay the way they are, she could end up on a Connecticut team with Skarupa, Trivigno, and Kelli Stack.
