UNC knocks out BC softball

Eagles fall in ACC quarterfinals

Boston College softball's best season in the ACC era has likely come to an end this afternoon, as the Eagles fell 6-0 to the North Carolina Tar Heels in the ACC quarterfinals in Raleigh, NC. North Carolina moves on to face top-ranked Florida State, while the Eagles likely find themselves on the wrong side of the bubble with the NCAA selection show looming.

BC and UNC were locked in a pitchers duel, trading shutout innings until the top of the 6th, when the Tar Heels finally broke through against BC's Jessica Dreswick. UNC plated six runs in the inning and quashed all hope of a BC comeback, allowing them to punch their ticket to the semifinals.

With an RPI of 52 going in to this game, and a 30-24 record, BC has likely not done enough to secure an NCAA spot - but they've certainly laid a solid foundation to build off of, with only three seniors graduating from this year's team.

We'll see what the committee has in store.
