Boston College needed some good news and they got it on National Signing Day as DB Hamp Cheevers of Trenton, Florida and Elijah Johnson of Hyattsville, MD committed to the Eagles.
Cheevers, a 5'11", 160-pound defensive back, was rumored to be a BC commit this week, but it took until National Signing Day for BC to make it official. The 2* back had offers from N.C. State, Kansas, Marshall and Utah State. After the loss of defensive backs KJ Gray and Da'vante Cross after defensive coordinator Don Brown left for Michigan, it was clear BC needed more depth. According to his HUDL film, Cheevers runs a 4.45 40, which of course is a bonus.
Johnson is a big time get for Boston College, even if he was only a 2* recruit. The 6'6", 310-pound tackle comes from a football heavy school (DeMatha), and had offers from a ton of P5 schools including Illinois, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Wake Forest, UVA, and West Virginia. He was committed to Rutgers up until last week, and it was rumored that it was down to BC and Pitt. He could fill the offensive tackle role left by James Hendren.
