National Signing Day is here, and arguably the best recruit BC has is 3* linebacker Ethan Tucky. The Rutherford B. Hayes graduate enrolled at Boston College earlier this month, and will be ready for spring practice, giving him an edge over any other defensive recruit.
Tucky, from Delaware, Ohio, was originally a 4* recruit, but the got the BC bump down to 3 after he committed. He held offers from a bevy of major programs including Northwestern, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Iowa. He even visited Ohio State, though he never claimed an offer from them.
Back in June, our own Dan Rubin gave a great breakdown on what makes Tucky special:
His recruiting profile describes a "relentless motor." He has incredible length at 6'2", 215 pounds, and he has the potential to add more strength and speed to that size. He's a solid tackler, capable of closing on ball carriers from any angle. While not quick immediately off the ball, he has an incredible next gear, and his effort on every play echoes the names of the past. He has the potential, right off the bat, to be an impact player from the beginning with room for improvement in areas BC excels at extending.
He sounds like he is going to fit in well with a linebacking corp of Matt Milano, Connor Strachan, and Ty Schwab. Will he get to start right away? Probably not; there is a lot of returning depth at the linebacking position, specifically at the outside slots. However, he will compete immediately and could see snaps right off the bat for Jim Reid's defense. This kind of talent already has college ready size and some time to learn the playbook.
BC has had a strong recent history of productive linebackers, with players such as Mark Herzlich, Luke Kuechly, and most recently Steven Daniels. Tucky looks to be the latest in this run, he certainly is going to be a player worth watching in 2016.
