Boston College To Announce $200 Million In Athletic Facility Improvements

Here it comes.....

Boston College Athletics may be finally getting a long-awaited shot in the arm in the facilities arms race according to a press release posted on Fox25:

Athletics Director Brad Bates says they plan to build a 240,000 square-foot recreational center, new baseball, softball, and intramural fields, and a new field house next to Alumni Stadium.

The recreational center will replace the Flynn Recreation Complex and be located at the site of Edmonds Hall on Thomas More Drive.

The University will also seek permitting for new baseball, softball and intramural fields on the Brighton Campus.

Bates said that fundraising for both projects will continue throughout the process.

In addition, Bates said that the university will begin discussions with Boston city officials regarding construction of an athletics field house that would be located adjacent to Alumni Stadium. This indoor facility, to be funded through private gifts, would provide space for varsity football and other field sports, as well as campus recreation, club sports, and intramurals.

The Field House sure sounds like the Indoor Practice Facility that BC has sorely lacked. This is going to be vital for recruiting and getting rid of the bubble that BC has used over Alumni Stadium. The placement of the Field House makes sense with the feeling that BC was trying to move tailgating and baseball off of Shea Field.

Hopefully Brad Bates has some sort of timeline soon, as we all know how slowly things can move along. We of course will be all over this news as it breaks.

Reportedly BC will hold a press conference later today to discuss the news. If this happens, we'll be covering the news.
