Following a NCAA Championship victory by former Big East compatriot, the Villanova Wildcats–and following a winless ACC season– the books are less than optimistic about Boston College’s chances to win the NCAA Championship in the 2016-17 season. Bovada, an online sports gambling site, has the Eagles at 500-1 odds going into the start of the season. BC’s odds are tied for the longest amongst teams that are eligible for championship wagers. BC is amongst programs such as BYU, UMass, St. Joseph’s, Temple and Stanford in terms of championship probability.
Incidentally, the Eagles opened on April 6 at 1000-1 odds, showing that some money has come in on the Eagles, though certainly not enough to make BC less of a long shot, at least from a comparative standpoint.
Fellow ACC member, the Duke Blue Devils, are the favorites to win the championship, at 4-1 odds, down from 9/2. Villanova has 10/1 odds to repeat as national champions.
