FINAL: Merrimack comes back, ties BC 2-2

+

Boston College looked to be in control after two periods, but a Merrimack surge in the third erased BC's lead and the two teams split the spoils on opening night for Hockey East play.

Leading 2-0 late in the second period, Casey Fitzgerald took an interference penalty in the final seconds that spilled over in to the third. Logan Coomes wasted no time for Merrimack, cashing in at 1:00 of the third to make it 2-1.

The Warriors added another PPG at 11:03 to Mathieu Foget, completing the comeback as BC appeared to falter under the weight of killing penalty after penalty while defending a lead.

To BC's credit, despite a Merrimack surge after tying it up, the Eagles bounced back and created a few decent chances to win it, outshooting the Warriors 13-9 in the third period and OT - but they never really looked all that dangerous and the game ended with a tie as the rightful result.

BC gets back to the Hockey East grind on Friday night at 6:00 PM in a home tilt with Providence.
