Boston College vs Buffalo: Grading the Eagles

How would you grade BC’s performance against Buffalo?

NCAA Football: Buffalo at Boston College Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Here we go, another opportunity to grade the Eagles after a convincing win against the Buffalo Bulls. Now is your chance to make your opinion heard. Voting is open to grade the Eagles. What did you like, what didn’t you like? Vote below, and leave your thoughts in the comment section

Quarterbacks:
Patrick Towles played most of the game, completing 14-25 for 234 yards for two touchdowns, but also had two trip sacks allowed that ended up as turnovers. Darius Wade played most of the 4th quarter.

Running Backs

The Eagles averaged a paltry 2.5 yards a carry, with Jon Hilliman leading the charge with 19 rushes for 64 yards. Davon Jones also contributed with 14 rushes for 53 yards. The Eagles backfield rushed for three touchdowns against the Bulls.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends

Jeff Smith had five catches for sixty five yards, while Charlie Callinan and Michael Walker both had touchdown catches. Tommy Sweeney had two catches for the Eagles at the tight end position.

Offensive Line

As mentioned before the Eagles averaged just over 2.5 yards per carry, they allowed two sacks. No holding penalties that I could find when reviewing the summary of the game.

Defensive Front Seven

They had only one sack in the game but held the Bulls to a paltry 44 yards rushing. They also forced two fumbles recovering one.

Secondary

No interceptions made by this crew, but they held the Bulls to a little over 40 yards in the air. Isaac Yiadom led the group with 3 pass breakups.

Special Teams

Mike Knoll knocked down all five extra points he needed to kick. He attempted no field goals and averaged 28 yards per punt. Tyler Rouse had some electric punt returns but most were negated by block in the back penalties

Coaching

BC ran the ball 49 times (on designed runs, I took out the Towles runs and attributed them to broken down pass plays), while calling roughly 43 pass plays. The Eagles dominated the time of possession and defense.

Final Grade

What grade would you give the overall performance of the team yesterday?
