BC Defensive Coordinator Search Update

More on Defensive Coordinator Candidate Jim Reid

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

As has been the case with most coaching searches lately, not much news has been leaking from BC in the search for a new Defensive Coordinator to replace Don Brown. Heck, we seem to be the only site out there to even produce a possible list of candidates that we're hearing about.

That changed on Sunday night, though, when Mark "A Jersey Guy" Blaudschun reported that Iowa Linebacker coach and former BC DC Jim Reid is one of the leaders for the job. From Blauds: "According to sources familiar with the process, Addazio is focusing on Iowa linebacker coach Jim Reid. A final decision and announcement is expected in the next few days."

Not surprisingly, both sides are being very quiet right now. After Blauds’ report broke, an Iowa football writer reached out to see if I had heard anything. That writer and another Iowa writer I contacted had no knowledge of Reid leaving. One writer said to me, "As of Saturday night, coach Reid was still calling recruits as a representative of the Iowa staff." The writer went on to tell me that he spoke to two coaches of recruits that spoke with Reid on Saturday.

Another thing to note is that Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz spent Sunday in Denver at the Broncos game watching his son James. That most likely means that if Reid and Ferentz were going to meet face-to-face, the earliest they could’ve done it was yesterday.

BCI will have more as we learn more about the Boston College DC search.
