Three Stars of the Week: One Clear Choice

#JY1K. Enough said.

With Jerry York finally winning his 1000th career game last week, there was but one clear choice for this week's #1 star of Boston College athletics. But who rounds out the list?

#1 Jerry York, men's hockey

With BC's 8-0 demolition of UMass on Friday night, Jerry York became the first and probably last ever NCAA hockey coach to hit the 1,000 win mark. Not bad at all, coach. He was our unanimous #1.

#2 Makenna Newkirk, women's hockey

With her two goal effort on Tuesday at Merrimack, Newkirk extends her lead as the highest scoring freshman in Hockey East, with 15 goals and 13 assists in 27 games. She also has quietly moved in to the top ten in league scoring (5th place among BC players).

#3 Colin White, men's hockey

The only player to score in each of last week's games, White scored in BC's rout at UMass, then scored a crucial go ahead goal late in the second period against UConn on Saturday. Unfortunately Saturday's didn't end up standing up as a game winner, as UConn went on to tie the game.

Honorable mention

Stephanie McCaffrey (named to the USWNT Olympic qualifying roster), Alex Carpenter (continued awesomeness) and Dana Trivigno (same) also received votes from our panel this week.

THREE STARS STANDINGS

Carpenter's probably got the #1 spot for the year on lock, but the race to get in to the top 3 is wide open. And there's still weeks and weeks to come where it's pretty much just baseball and softball happening as far as team sports go.
