The Book 2015: Final Poll

Alabama crowned the champion all across the board. Eagles finish #99. All the rankings any person would ever want to know and the future of the Book.

The Book and Phil Steele close out the season by being first a beneficiary and then a victim of a back door cover.  Both picked Alabama to win the national championship game and gave 10+ points then saw Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry seemingly put a bow on it all with 1:07, only to have it all taken away when Clemson scored with just 12 seconds left to get the final margin to five.

This means that Steele officially finishes the season at 385-362-16 .515 for the season and The Book at 374-367-1 .505.  So if you decided to put $100 a game on every game this season, as it usually does, you would have taken home some money, to the tune of $2,300 from Steele and $700 from the Book...not too shabby...but we want more.

Every year I have a goal of further automating and evolving what this is capable of doing.  This year introduced some automation of point spreads and the concept of a strength of record rating, which going forward (including today) I am going to use as the official ranking and then use the magazines (still don't know if I will use one or both again next year) for the point spreads/power rankings.

The goals for next year are two fold.  Increase winner vs the spread to at least 55% and see if more consistency to the Massey ratings can be achieved using strength of record.

The final ratings are below and pretty closely resemble what one would find with the AP, Massey or Sagarin polls..all through some silly formulas.

Boston College stayed where they were prior to the bowl season.  #99 in strength of record and #81/72 in the power ratings of the two pre-season publications.
