The award is the first such award for the redshirt senior

Prior to the Boston College football game against the University of Maine Black Bears, head coach Steve Addazio told the Boston Herald that Mehdi Abdesmad had been solid in practice leading up to the season, going as far as to say that he had "looked dominant."

This dominance led to a strong day for the redshirt-senior against the Black Bears, as Abdesmad registered 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for a loss during the game. The dominance of Abdesmadas well as the rest of the Boston College defense, led the ACC to name Abdesmad Defensive Lineman of the Week for the conference.

Abdesmad had been plagued by knee injuries, one of which forced him to redshirt the 2013 season after four games, with another ending his 2014 campaign only three games after the start of the season.

Abdesmad's performance Saturday afternoon eclipsed two previous personal records. Abdesmad's 1.5 sacks broke his personal record of one sack ascertained against the University of Southern California in 2013. His previous personal record of 1.5 tackles for a loss against Wake Forest in 2013 was also shattered by his 2.5 tackle for a loss performance Saturday afternoon.
