Ohio State remains atop the Coaches Poll after Week 1 of the season, to nobody's surprise following their smashing victory over Virginia Tech last night. Unsurprisingly, BC remains very much on the outside looking in, without a vote.
As was the case for the preseason poll, three BC opponents remain in the top 25, all in the same slots. Florida State stays at #8 after their win over Texas State. Notre Dame remains at #11, which is a bit surprising; I thought they might surge after throttling Texas. We'll see if that happens in the AP poll, which comes out shortly. Clemson remains at #12. Georgia Tech rounds out the ACC representation, moving up one slot to #16.
Three upcoming BC opponents remain in the also receiving votes section: Louisville, Duke, and NC State. Virginia Tech fell from the equivalent of #29 to out entirely, receiving zero votes. Because if you thought Virginia Tech was, say, the 20th or 21st best team in the country, it makes total sense that after losing to the unanimous, consensus #1 team in the country, you now no longer think so. Because that makes perfect sense, and is a totally good way to determine who is ranked where. (Thumbs up)
