Four weeks in to the college football season, we are starting to learn a bit more about BC's opponents, and which games seem more or less likely to result in wins. Of course, the issue is we still don't fully know what we might be able to get out of our own team. That will probably remain the case unless and until someone seizes the starting QB job.
Here's an updated look at BC opponents.
Week 5 at Duke: Win vs #20 Georgia Tech, 34-20; now 3-1
In their second straight game against a ranked opponent, Duke looked much better than they did the week before against Northwestern, rolling over a Georgia Tech team that was considered the favorite to win the Coastal Division. In a potentially worrying sign for BC, GT's option offense wasn't able to do much against Duke. This has quickly traveled from "lean BC" to "toss up" to "lean Duke" for me as the season has played out. Updated win confidence: 45% (going down)
Week 6 vs. Wake Forest: Lost vs. Indiana`31-24; now 2-2
In one of the saddest possible power 5 matchups, Wake Forest fell at home to Indiana, erasing the momentum gained by their win over Army the previous week. Wake continues to look shaky and unlikely to contend for a bowl berth. Updated win confidence: 85% (staying even)
Week 7 at Clemson: BYE; still 3-0
Clemson enjoyed their first bye of the season before next week's marquee matchup with Notre Dame. Updated win confidence: 10% (staying even)
Week 8 at Louisville: Won vs. Samford; now 1-3
Louisville got in to the win column with a cakewalk against FCS Stamford. Louisville remains behind the eight ball and faces a tricky trip to NC State next weekend. Updated win confidence: 30% (staying even)
Week 9 vs. Virginia Tech: Lost at ECU 35-28; now 2-2
Despite preseason prognostications of a thunderous turnaround, it's starting to look like the Hokies will once again be just OK. Updated win confidence: 50% (staying even)
Week 10 vs. NC State: Won 63-13 vs. South Alabama; now 4-0
It looks like NC State has finally run out of transitional FBS opponents to play after this weekend's rout of South Alabama. We'll learn more about the Wolfpack next week against Louisville.. Updated win confidence: 55% (going down)
Week 12 vs. Notre Dame: Won 62-27 vs. UMass; now 4-0
Saturday was kind of a win/win situation to be able to find a little bit of glee in whatever happened in the ND/UMass game. As it was, Notre Dame dropped the hammer on the poor Minutemen and continued to burnish their top 10 credentials. Updated win confidence: 25% (going down)
Week 13 vs. Syracuse: Lost 34-24 vs. LSU; now 3-1
Syracuse performed a lot more credibly than most people thought they would against LSU, and continues to show some signs of life this season. Updated win confidence: 65% (going down)
