I've said for years that it all comes out in the wash and I am sure it will do so again this year, but at this point, playing and beating inferior opponents certainly looks like the tact to take in our poll as TCU leap-Frogged Ohio State to recapture the top spot for week 3.
The Toads are #1 in both the Book and Phil Steele versions as our top five teams are identical on both sides of the aisle, with TCU followed by Ohio State, Ole Miss, Alabama and USC. The Massey composite rankings don't necessarily agree, keeping the Bucks at #1, with Alabama, TCU, Georgia and Michigan State rounding out its top five. Personally, not sure if I agree wholeheartedly with either at this point, but I just enter numbers!
BC is up slightly this week, moving to 62nd in the Phil Steele poll and still all the way down at 72rd in the Book. Even the worst Massey rating for the Eagles was only 75th, so these are both toward the bottom end of the scale. Overall, the composite puts BC at 52nd, for the 52 rankings that have been submitted.
In the ACC, it is Georgia Tech listed as tops by both polls. There is some discrepancy toward the middle of the pack with a fairly messy jumble between spots 4 and 10. BC comes in at 12/13.
With that as a backdrop, it should come as no surprise that the Eagles are a fairly solid dog at home against Florida State on Friday night. The Book making FSU a 13.3 point favorite and Phil Steele all the way up at 15.4 which is about what Jeff Sagarin calls for as well.
In the battle for magazine supremacy, this week was all Steele as it finished at 56% for the week in comparison to the Book's 48%. For the season, Steele now has a five game lead.
Enjoy your football weekend and Go Eagles!
