Losses are never a desirable outcome, but Boston College's loss to #8/9 Louisville contained a positive element of celebration for junior guard Nicole Boudreau. Within the first few minutes of the game Boudreau had hit her 1,000th career point, and would continue to lead the team in scoring with 12 points. Despite the milestone for Boudreau, freshman forward Mariya Moore led the Cardinals with 18 points in their 77-60 win.
The Eagles' starters included Kelly Hughes (g), Emilee Daley (g), Martina Mosetti (g), Ashley Kelsick (g), and Katie Quandt (c). The starting five for Louisville were Bria Smith (g), Jude Schimmel (g), Sara Hammond (f), Shawnta' Dyer (f), and Sheronne Vails (c), all of whom were honored before the game for the Cardinals' senior night.
In the first half, the Eagles were consistent across the board, scoring 50% in free throws, field goals, and 3-pointers. The Cardinals were 56.3% with field goals, 42.9% at the arch, and 87.5% at the free throw line. By halftime the Cardinals held the lead with 46-31. Boston College's shooting percentages dropped in the second half with a 44% field goal rate and 41.7% in three point shots. The Eagles remained at 50% making 2 out of 4 of their free throws. Louisville shot for 29.4% in field goals, and 33.3% of their 12 three point attempts. At the line, the Cardinals completed 7 of their 10 shots.
Other notables for Boston College included Daley and Kelsick tying in second both with 10 points, while Hughes grabbed eight rebounds. Shawnta' Dyer followed Moore with 13 points, and led the Cardinals with six rebounds.
The Eagles (12-16, 4-11) will host Virginia Tech on Sunday for their last game of the season. Before the game the seniors on the team, Victoria Lesko and Shayra Brown, will be honored. Tip off is scheduled for 1pm.
