The 2012 national championship team was in deep trouble in January after getting swept by Maine at the Alfond Arena. They went 2-5-1 in an 8 game stretch and looked a bit listless. However, they found their legs in a weekend sweep over UNH going in to the Beanpot, and followed that up by throttling Northeastern in the first round of the Beanpot. BC then faced a tricky trip up to Burlington in between Beanpot games - a recipe for a trap game. But BC came out focused and pummeled the Catamounts 6-1, on the strength of big nights by both Chris Kreider and Johnny Gaudreau. Kreider scored a hat trick and Gaudreau added a pair of goals.
Two days later, BC won the Beanpot with a 3-2 overtime victory over Boston University. The rest was history - the Eagles went on to clinch the Hockey East regular season title, the tournament title, and of course, the national championship in Tampa.
