After a 1-0 loss to Sweden in their second group stage game at the World Junior Championship, the US looks to get back on the horse today against Switzerland. The task won't be an easy one, as Switzerland just nearly pulled a big upset yesterday against Canada, losing 3-2 in a shootout. The Swiss led for most of the game before blowing a 2-0 lead late. Given that the Swiss got hammered by Sweden and lost to Denmark (!) yesterday's result came as a huge surprise.
With two games to go in the group today and tomorrow, a win today, either in regulation or OT/shootout, would clinch the US's spot in the knockout round. Obviously, they have bigger goals than that, and a win would keep winning the group or finishing 2nd very much in play.
