#CountdownToJY1K: Bowling Green Wins 1984 National Championship In Quadruple Overtime

Jerry York wins national title #1

How's about this for a throwback? Video of a team coached by a very young Jerry York winning the 1984 national championship with Bowling Green. Enjoy the sights and sounds of Gino Cavallini's game winner in 4OT. Starting at 5:52, hear from Jerry York himself, four national titles ago.

It was Bowling Green's first ever national title, topping Minnesota-Duluth 5-4 in Lake Placid, NY.

Bowling Green took a wild and dramatic path to the NCAA title, defeating BU 8-7 in a two game, total-goals series in the first round. BU won the opening game 6-3. In game two, Bowling Green won 4-1 to force overtime, then scored a 5th to advance to the Final Four. In the semifinal, they squeaked past Michigan State to make the final.

Jerry York went on to coach ten more seasons at Bowling Green, but didn't win another national title there. It would be 17 years until he would lift the championship trophy again, this time back at his alma mater in 2001.
