The NCAA women's soccer bracket was announced this afternoon and Boston College has made the field of 64, returning to the tournament after a brief absence last season.
The Eagles will travel to New Jersey to take on Princeton on Saturday night at 7 PM in their tournament opener. BC finished 11-6-2 on the season and #34 nationally in RPI, powered by leading scorers McKenzie Meehan and Hayley Dowd. Princeton should be a tough matchup for the Eagles; they finished 13-3-1, including an undefeated run to the Ivy League championship, and ended the season #31 in RPI. BC went 2-0 against Ivy League opponents this year, topping Harvard and Colombia.
A stout challenge awaits the winner of BC-Princeton, likely in the form of 4-seed USC, who hosts Cal State Fullerton in their first round game on Saturday afternoon. Southern Cal finished 14-5-1 in the regular season.
Should BC advance to the Sweet 16, their likely task would be to take down #5 in the nation UVA, who went 16-1-2 this season in the ACC and lost the conference title game to Florida State on penalty kicks.
As usual, the ACC is well-represented in the tournament field. 8 teams in total qualified for the tournament, including two #1 seeds, a #2 seed, three #3 seeds and a #4 seed. Last year, Florida State defeated UVA in an all-ACC national championship game.
