When we started this series with #35 Alex Joyce all the way back, hockey felt so far away. Now it's here. Life is good.

#3 Ian McCoshen- Defenseman

Class Year: Junior
Height: 6'3''
Hometown: Fairbault, Minnesota

Before BC:

Ian McCoshen played with the Waterloo Black Hawks in the USHL in 2012/13.

Fun facts:

McCoshen was selected #31 overall in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers.

McCoshen inherited the #3 from BC D and two time national champion Patch Alber

2014-2015 in review:

McCoshen showed some steady improvement over an already good freshman campaign, putting up 16 points (6-10--16), compared to 13 the year before. He ended the season a +14 and also contributed to the US U20 team at the World Junior championships. One of the weapons McCoshen deployed more frequently last season was his bomb of a slap shot from the point on the power play.

2015-2016 outlook:

As a junior and an alternate captain, McCoshen will be relied upon to play big top four minutes this season and continue his steady two way presence on the blue line. In addition to being a very good defensive player, his steady, solid skating ability and hard shot will make him a key player going forward, particularly on the power play.

Highlights:

At the 2014 Northeast Regional final against UMass Lowell, McCoshen scored a beauty of a game winning goal to lock down the victory in one of the best hockey games I've ever seen. I could watch this goal on a loop and never get tired of it.
