RPI Defeats Boston College Hockey, 2-1
In case you were wondering how this weekend could possibly get any worse, BC hockey dropped an entirely winnable game on the road at RPI, 2-1. The Eagles outshot the Engineers 39-28 and probably had about another 15 or 20 shots blocked as well, but this wasn't really a case of getting unlucky; RPI played a great defensive game and was able to frustrate the Eagles.
There's no real way to sugarcoat this one, RPI was a pretty mediocre team last year and just lost to UMass Lowell 3-0 on Friday night. This is a tough loss and perhaps the only silver lining is that they probably won't be #1 in this week's poll. That label didn't really suit them yet at this early stage; they have a lot of talent, but a lot of work to do.
After BC fell behind 2-0 on goals late in the 2nd and early in the 3rd, Zach Sanford pulled one back with a power play goal with about 12 minutes to play. BC had numerous opportunities to tie it but could just never make that killer final pass or finish their chances.
BC falls to 1-1 and will return to action Friday night against Wisconsin, in BC's home opener. Grant will be back with more details and GIFs later on.
