After Mike Knoll shanked an extra point in overtime, sealing BC's loss to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl, Head Coach Steve Addazio made it clear that special teams was going to be a focus this offseason. Those changes have already begun, as BC has named Coleman Hutzler the new Special Teams/Linebackers Coach for the Eagles.
Hutzler comes over after spending the season with Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators. The year before that he was doing basically the same thing with the New Mexico Lobos. Last season the Gators went 19/24 on field goals and 42/43 on extra points. Nationally they were 17th in punt returns with a 12 yard average, and 81st in kickoff returns (BC was 4th).
There is no word on what the status is for previous ST coach Sean McGowan. But you have have to imagine that he must have been held responsible for the 8 missed extra points, and the non existent field goal game. BC hasn't even officially released the hiring of Hutzler yet, but Hutzler's Twitter has already been changed to reflect his new position.
Glad to see Addazio saw a problem and addressed it immediately. Hopefully Coleman can fix the issues that cost BC numerous games this season. Welcome to the Heights!
