Boston College Football: Get To Know The Dudes - #93, DE Kevin Kavalec

A look at a rising sophomore who may be getting some playing time this season

Ed Wolfstein-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Kevin Kavalec

Position: Defensive End

Number: #93

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6-foot-3

Weight: 251 lbs.

Hometown: Middleberg Heights, OH

High School: St. Ignatius

2013 Stats: Kavalec was mostly the backup to Kasim Edebali in 2013 during his freshman year. Played in eight games last season. Kevin debuted against Florida State  where he had one solo tackles against the Seminoles. Finished the season with three tackles.

2014 Projections: With Kasim and Kaleb Ramsey graduating, this year would be a perfect opportunity for Kavalec to step up and grab the starting role. With the experience that he gained last year, Kavalec could slide right in and give BC someone who has competed at this level. However, with freshman Harold Landry jumping into the mix, he could jump someone on the depth chart as well and that person could be Kavalec. This will be an interesting position battle going into the season.

How'd He Get Here: According to Rivals, Kevin was a 2* recruit that chose Boston College over claimed offer from Ohio. His primary recruiter was former offensive line coordinator Jim Bollman.

Twitter Feed: You can follow Kevin on Twitter at @k_kav88

Tweetable: Kevin's account is protected.

Uniform History: Steve Lubischer, a linebacker who played at BC and for the Dolphins wore it, his son also can lay a pretty good hit as well.  Kyle Geiselman, who was one of the players involved in the betting scandal wore the number. Phil Mettling, a defensive end and starter wore the number in the early 2000's. Keith Willis Jr. wore the number during his time at BC, where he was a backup defensive lineman in 2005 & 2006. Bryan Murray, a defensive tackle wore it in 2010.
