Boston College Football: Get To Know The Dudes - #59, C Andy Gallik

Get to know today's dude, #59 center Andy Gallik

Mark L. Baer-US PRESSWIRE

Name: Andy Gallik

Position: Center

Number: #59

Year: Senior

Height: 6-foot-3

Weight: 299 lbs.

Hometown:Evergreen Park, Illinois

High School:Brother Rice

2013 Stats: Started in all 13 games for the Eagles, Gallik had a tremendous year benefiting greatly from the new coaching staff and his maturity as a player. Many fans were worried about his progress during the Spaz years as he struggled both in pass and run, but last year he showed the doubters wrong. He was tremendous in the run, helping Matt Patchan and Ian White open holes and reducing the number of sacks to Chase Rettig from 2012 to 2013.

2014 Projections: Gallik doesn't get the respect he deserves, but I think after this season that will be a different story. He has already been named to the Rimington Watch List for best center in the country. I expect Gallik to be the anchor on a very strong offensive line this year, one that will be loaded with senior leadership. Also expect Gallik to go in the NFL draft at the end of the year.

How'd He Get Here: Gallik was recruited as an offensive guard by Dave Brock, was a 3* and held offers from Illinois, Colorado State, Minnesota, NIU, Toledo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Ball State.

Uniform History: The first recorded #59 in BC football was Philip Larkin a center from Lynn Massachusetts, who wore the number from 1923-26. Chris Kete a center for the Eagles, wore the number as well before being selected in the NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins in the 11th round in 1972. The biggest Eagle to wear the number had to be defensive end Mike Mamula, who started at defensive end for the Eagles and recorded a mind blowing 17 sacks his senior year at the Heights before going #7 in the 1995 draft to the Philadelphia Eagles. Linebacker and walk on Brooke Heald wore the number as a linebacker in 1997 and 98 (you can read an interesting article in the Heights about him here)
