Boston College Football: Get To Know The Dudes - #39, DB Atem Ntantang

Get to know defensive back Atem Ntantang

Jared Wickerham

Name: Atem Ntantang

Position: Cornerback

Number: #39

Year: Redshirted Freshman

Height: 5-foot-11

Weight: 190 lbs.

Hometown: Purcellville, VA

High School: Woodgrove HS

2013 Stats: Was redshirted in 2013

2014 Projections: It will be interesting to see what role Atem will play in BC's defense this year. The Eagles has a spot to fill in the secondary with Al Louis-Jean leaving early for the NFL draft. However with the signing of Ty-ree Brown, I would expect Ntantang to be probably be listed as a two on the depth chart.  I figure that the secondary could be open to all sorts of changes given some of the struggles we saw last year. Like many of these young kids though a strong start to the summer and catching the eye of Don Brown could lead to playing time.

How'd He Get Here: Atem was a 2* cornerback, who graduated from Woodgrove HS and chose Boston College over claimed offers from Columbia and Yale. Al Washington was his lead recruiter.

Twitter Feed: You can follow Atem at @atem_ntantang. And always remember scared money don't make no money.

Uniform History: Along with sharing the number with Sean Burke, there hasn't been a lot of recent notable players who have donned #39. The first known player to wear the number was Ed Stewart, a back from Bridgewater, MA in the late 1920's. Linebacker Darius Bagan wore #39 as a backup linebacker in 2009. Running back Mike Javorski wore the number in 2012, though he didn't see any playing time under Spaz.

Quotable: Atem on being the first D1 Football Player from his HS

"Personally, it means a lot, because I’ve been able to be a part of a lot of firsts here, and this is another huge step for our program," Ntantang said. "To be the first football player to sign D-1, it’s just incredible. I’m sure there are going to be more to come, but someone has to be first."
