Boston College Football Recruiting Notebook: April 22nd Edition

No new recruits but that doesn't mean that BC isn't making moves. Here are some important updates

Jared Wickerham

Readers have been asking for recruiting updates, and I have a whole bevy of them. BC hasn't landed a commitment in a while, but with the no contact period over news is flying left and right. So let's take a look at some of the recruiting targets that have popped up lately for Boston College.

In order to help differentiate where we are in terms of scouting reports I have read and Twitter posts I have located, I have created the following ranking system (which I adapted from MgoBlog):

5 – Trending Maroon and Gold
4 – Made it into the top 2-3
3 – Contender in a top 3-7 teams
2 – Among large (8-15) group under consideration
1 – Let’s see if he visits Chestnut Hill before we talk
0 – Fleeting interest, most likely we won't be seeing him at the Heights

Quentin Harris - Dual Threat Quarterback -3*- Watertown, Connecticut

Steve Addazio is going to need to build some quarterback depth, and I have a feeling this is going to be the name we hear about frequently moving forward. Recently he came out and said that he was going to take visits to both Duke and Boston College. He is slow playing his recruiting so this may drag out a while. Harris has offers from Duke, BC and Yale right now, and is the number six ranked recruit in Connecticut.

Tommy Hatton - OG - 3* - Montvale, New Jersey

Hatton is a prized offensive guard, ranked the 24th best guard in the country by Rivals. He visited Boston College in March, but was offered by South Carolina just a little over a week ago. He seems to be leaning heavy towards the Gamecocks and will be visiting them soon, should be making his decision over the summer. I just don't see him coming to the Heights, but for now he is in the mix.

Kareem McDonald - LB - 2* - Washington D.C.

Over the weekend McDonald tweeted out that he was excited that BC was going to visit him at his high school. He only holds an offer right now from Toledo, but many of the Maryland blogs feel that he is going to eventually end up with the Terps.

Asmar Bilal - LB - 4*- Indianapolis, Indiana

Of course Boston College is going to try to get in on some of the bigger names as well, as they offered Bilal over the weekend. This is not going to be easy for the Eagles as they are going to have to go head to head with Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Virginia Tech and Michigan State. Bilal hasn't trimmed his list yet, so I guess anything is a possibility at this point.

Sage Hardin - OT - 3* - Atlanta, Georgia

Hardin took an unofficial visit to Boston College last weekend and apparently was raving about it. I like BC's chances with this recruit for a number of reasons. One, he is at Marist School, which is the same school that Myles Willis came from. Willis and Hardin seem to chat on Twitter alot, so maybe there is a good connection there. Secondly, Atlanta is Al Washington's zone, and a big offensive lineman fits in so well with our offensive scheme that I think it could be an easy sell for Al. But let's see, according to 247 the Crystal Ball Predictions from earlier have him leaning towards Vanderbilt.

Christian Rector - DE - 3* - Los Angeles, California

Rector received an offer from the Eagles back in the end of March, and was quick to talk about how excited he was about the offer. He plans on visiting the Eagles soon, but has gained a lot of interest from a big group of west coast schools, including Arizona State which appears to be his favorite at this point.

Daiquan Kelly - WR/Safety - 3* - Union City, New Jersey

Kelly was offered by the Eagles back in January, and since then has piled on a pretty impressive list of offers including Michigan State, Pitt, Syracuse and Rutgers. On Twitter someone asked him to rank his Top 5, and right now he has BC at number four, behind Pitt/Michigan St and Rutgers. So clearly the Eagles have some work to do to get him to the Heights.

Kadeen Dryden - DT - NR - Brooklyn, New York

According to Twitter, BC coaches will be stopping by his school this week to chat with him. Honestly I don't know much about this kid. He doesn't have any offers right now but appears to be gaining interest from Temple and Syracuse, so he might be a kid who's name starts to pop up soon.

Darius Fullwood - DE - 3* - Olney, Maryland

BC clearly is looking for talent on the defensive line, and Fullwood would certainly be a slam dunk if they could grab him. He was offered by the Eagles on April 16th, and holds offers from Penn State, University of Miami, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Michigan State among others. Certainly BC is going to be a reach given those offers.

Kengera Daniel - DE - 3*- Raleigh, North Carolina

When the no contact period was lifted, Daniel was the first recruit that Boston College offered. He is extremely talented and is garnering interest from big time programs including Alabama and Miami, and ACC foes like Wake Forest. But again, here comes a heavily recruited DE from North Carolina, can Al Washington pull off magic again like he did with Harold Landry in 2014?

Qaadir Sheppard - ILB - NR - New Rochelle, New York

According to Twitter, Sheppard is becoming a hot commodity in the Northeast region, getting offers from Rutgers, Boston College, Syracuse and Temple. He took an unofficial to BC back in March, but hasn't visited any other schools at this time.

Happy Trails!

Here are some recruits that were tied to BC that chose to commit elsewhere

Zach Allen - 3*- DE - New Canaan, Connecticut

Commited to Northwestern.

Joe Gaziano - 3* - DE - Westwood, Massachusetts

Committed to Northwestern.

Both of these losses sting as they were local recruits that chose to go elsewhere. Gaziano especially stings given that he was the number one recruit in Massachusetts. Tough losses for Addazio, maybe the fence isn't as strong as it seems, but as you can see from above he has other talented defensive ends in his cross hairs.

Tidbits

Committed running back Jordan Gowins had some interesting insight into the recruiting pitch the staff used on him

"The head coach was very up front. He told Jordan, 'If you're looking for glitter, this isn't the place,' " said St. Anthony's coach Rich Reichert, who accompanied Gowins to a Juniors Day visit to Boston College two weeks ago. "He said, 'The stadium isn't as nice as others in the ACC and the weight room is a little old. But if you want to be a running back, there are only two other places that do what we do -- Stanford and Wisconsin."

Boston College's recruiting campaign has gone all Photoshop on the recruits. BC recruits, with and without offers were posting lots of the letters and graphics that they received from the coaching staff. Thought I would share them here
