It was a tough win, and one that got unnecessarily close, but BC has their fifth win this time defeating Wake Forest 23-17 on the road. Let's look at the action.
During the first half Boston College dominated the Demon Deacons on both sides of the ball winning the yards battle 206-6. On the first drive, BC methodically moved the ball down the field but stalled out in the red zone leading to 31 yard field goal by Alex Howell.
Wake's offense simply couldn't move the ball, as Kevin Kavalec and Connor Wujciak both made huge plays to prevent any sort of rhythm. BC had two more big drives in the first half both of them capped off with impressive Jon Hilliman touchdown carries. The freshman running back now has nine touchdowns on the season.
The second half started off poorly for the Eagles. Tyler Murphy and company went three and out. Wake Forest began to find their groove as their offensive line began to hold against the relentless BC blitz. True freshman John Wolford began to pick apart the BC defense, but stalled out in the red zone and was held to a field goal.
BC responded immediately and quickly with Tyler Murphy hitting two long passes to David Dudeck and a long 37 yard bomb to Shakim Phillips. Stop me if you have heard this before, but Alex Howell's extra point was blocked giving BC a 23-3 lead. Wake marched down, aided by a bogus roughing the passer John Wolford found E.J Scott for a three yard touchdown
Disaster struck as Myles Willis fumbled the ensuing kickoff, giving Wake the short field, which they quickly took advantage of with a one yard run by Isaiah Robinson. BC's lead was now down to six. The Eagles gained a first down on the next drive but were forced to punt. The defense again stepped up with a huge interception by Justin Simmons. Tyler Murphy and Jon Hilliman gained first downs.
BC is now 5-3 and will be looking at a big matchup next weekend against Virginia Tech. One more win and the Eagles are bowl eligible.
