It all sounds good until someone loses an eye.
Why do I think it's time for The Book to lose an eye?
Another winning week for The Book against the spread, but looking at the numbers coming out of the home office this week, I am scared. The spreads for seemingly every game are just massive and for the most part appear to be way out of line. Has The Book developed Balls of Steel and now thinks it's bigger than Vegas?
For instance, Michigan State by 25 1/2 over Michigan? I know the Wolverines suck...but is it that bad?
Actually, there are some spreads that look too low as well. Something tells me to get out the soap and shampoo...time to take a bath.
In the meantime though, my fictional wallet continues to grow, albeit a small gain. 24-21 .533 with a whopping seven games the same as Vegas last week, to stand at 177-170-5 .510 for the season.
The ACC and National polls though look reasonable. Ole Miss continues to hold down the top spot, as five SEC teams including four SEC West teams make up the top five. With the Playoff Committee ready to release its rankings in just another week, how possible is it that more than two teams from the SEC West will be in the initial four?
BC's loss to Clemson didn't faze The Book much at all. In fact, the Eagles rose in the overall poll to 45 (that strength of schedule thing at work) and will travel to Winston-Salem to face #107 #theRivalry this week.
BC also rose in the ACC rankings to #8...up a notch, although there is a pretty large pack of eight ACC teams between 38 and 64, so a solid win or a bad loss could drop a team greatly.
Oddly, with so many big spreads this week, the Eagles are actually favored here by slightly less than the Vegas spread at 13, meaning that the Book is taking the Deacons and the 13 1/2.
Last week, The Book once again got on the right side of the BC game and is now 5-1 ATS when handicapping the Eagles.
Both the Sleeper and the Toilet Bowl games won last week, with Missouri getting 4.5 at Florida in that bizarre rout and the Idaho Vandals taking out old friend Doug Martin and NM State. That puts the Sleeper pick at 4-3 and the Toilet Bowl at 3-4 on the year.
This week let's try #24 Arizona at #29 Washington (take UW -4 with Vegas showing UW +2) and the Toilet Bowl #116 Miami OH hosting #119 Kent State (Miami -4.5 with Vegas showing Miami -6...so we have the Golden Flashes)
