One of the keys to victory for Boston College last Friday night was establishing the Eagles' ground game. Boston College senior running back Andre Williams obliged us, rushing 35 times for a career-high 204 yards and one TD in the Eagles' 24-10 victory over Wake Forest. The performance was his second straight of the 100-yards plus rushing variety and seventh of his career.
Through two games, Williams (318 yards) has rushed for nearly 30 percent of the team's total rushing output from a season ago (1,091). Naturally, that effort was good enough to earn the senior ACC Football Offensive Back of the Week.
Williams wasn't the only Boston College player so honored this week. Sophomore defensive back Bryce Jones earned ACC Football Defensive Back of the Week after finishing with two solo tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery against Wake Forest. Jones recovered the second of the Deacons fumbles that led to the Rettig-to-Evans touchdown pass on the ensuing play.
Williams and Jones join North Carolina OT James Hurst, Maryland WR Stefon Diggs, Miami DE Anthony Chickillo, N.C. State DE Art Norman, Miami LB Denzel Perryman, N.C. State K Niklas Sade and Clemson WR Germone Hopper as this week's honorees.
