Gameday, Eagles!

Wake Forest will keep BC guessing tonight, but will BC keep the Deacons guessing?

Asked about the changes at BC under the new regime in the weekly ACC conference call, Grobe said, “Some of their schemes are different. They're doing a lot of different things defensively, and then they've got some things that are particular to their staff offensively. But I think the thing that Steve and his staff are doing a good job of is they're utilizing the talent they've got. “They've got a real good mix of knock-you-down and throw-it-over-you kind of stuff.”

Freese has been money in bank for BC (A Jersey Guy talks sports & mouths off!)
“”I said, “Hey Ryan, we have points here. Be careful with what you call,” said Addazio earlier this week. “”With a guy (Freese) like that, the last thing you want to do is get inside field goal range. You have to have a mind-set of “Don’t give away points. That’s how I view it. If affects the calls you make (on offense). You want to utilize your weapons.”

Going to go out on a limb and say Wake Forest does NOT have the best defense in the nation ...

PUTTING THE ‘D’ IN DEMON DEACONS: The sample size is small, but the numbers indicate that Wake Forest has the best defense in the nation. The Demon Deacons allowed Presbyterian to gain 151 total yards — and 66 of those came on the game’s first play — while forcing six turnovers. They’ll surely have a tougher time against a Boston College team that rolled up 413 total yards against FCS member Villanova in Addazio’s debut.

Throw another soon-to-be former conference member into the indoor practice facility / college football arms race. What's the current credit rating on Jim Delany I.O.Us?

In the other football news, McKenzie Meehan is quickly making a name for herself on the pitch. The sophomore defender has game-winning goals in each of the Eagles three victories this season. The latest victim is no. 21 Ohio State. Meehan scored in the 80th minute to give BC a 1-0 victory over the Buckeyes on Thursday night. The Eagles are now 3-2-0 on the year and play again next Thursday in the ACC opener against Pitt.

Here's Conte Confidential's Q&A with McKenzie.

Congrats to Boston College field hockey coach Ainslee Lamb who earned her 100th career win at BC. The field hockey team remains a perfect 4-0 on the year.

Luke Kuechly, in his second year in the league, has been named one of the Carolina Panthers' six captains for the 2013 season. No big deal.

Finally, I see the bookstore's shipment of Gaudreau jerseys came early this year ...
