ACC Upset Watch: Week 3 (ESPN ACC Blog)
1. Boston College at USC: Kiffin was booed in his own stadium on Saturday after a 10-7 loss to Washington State. The Cougars won without scoring an offensive touchdown. USC lost in its home opener for the first time since 1997. If ever there was a time for the Eagles to travel across the country and beat the storied program, this would be it. BC is feeling good after its 2-0 start, has been re-energized by first-year coach Steve Addazio and has gotten back to playing physical, hard-nosed, disciplined football. Andre Williams ran for more than 200 yards last week. Meanwhile, USC's quarterbacks last week combined to average 2.6 yards per pass, and didn't complete a pass longer than eight yards. So, yeah, BC has a chance.
Well, I was starting to feel good about this game, until we got the Dinich Curse. Oh well; there's always next week.
125 FBS Teams, Ranked (Deadspin)
59. BOSTON COLLEGE (2-0).
60. USC (1-1).
Wait, what?
2. Boston College and Maryland on the rebound?: Over the past couple seasons, Boston College and Maryland's respective struggles have been well chronicled and ridiculed, but both programs suddenly appear to be on the mend. The Terps and Eagles are both 2-0 to start the season, and while Maryland has won with a high-powered offense, BC has done it with a formidable defense. We'll see if the trends hold, but for right now, things are looking up for both programs.
ACC Football Player of the Week, Week 2: Andre Williams, Boston College (Atlantic Coast Convos)
Without much going on in the passing game, the Eagles were forced to rely on the ground game to move the ball. In response, Williams delivered the best effort of his career, with averaging 5.8 yards on 35 carries, plus a score. Boston College took home its first ACC win and second overall win of the season (both tying last year's marks already), and now with a legitimate running game, they can aim for even more.
