You've got to take away from it that you're also learning new systems, so your knowledge of the game is expanding. "When you're a quarterback, there's so much terminology and you need to process it all faster. You need to help the wide receivers, the running backs, the tight ends all get to the right spot."

Yes, ACC divisions have been discussed. According to Swofford, the idea of shaking up the Atlantic and Coastal Divisions has come up every time the ACC has added a school. But each time, well … "Each time our schools end up basically at the same place where they started," Swofford said. "I think any time any league that’s 14 or — as we are, that is one of the things you lose."

"That was discussed when the league made the decision to bring Notre Dame in," Swofford said. "It’s the right thing to do at this point in time. It was a unanimous decision by our institutions and a very positive one that has already benefitted us without question. ... I’m really pleased and I know the vast majority of people in our league are pleased that ND is part of the ACC family under the conditions they are currently under."
